History of the QR Code

Masahiro Hara

The QR Code was invented by the Japanese company Denso Wave, a subsidiary of the automotive company Denso, in 1994. QR Code, short for Quick Response Code, is a type of two-dimensional barcode that can be scanned quickly and easily using a cell phone. It consists of black modules arranged in a square on a white background, making it easily recognizable.

The QR Code has become extremely popular due to its ability to contain much more information than a conventional barcode. A QR Code can contain up to 7,089 numeric or 4,296 alphanumeric characters. What's more, it can contain URLs, e-mail addresses, vCard virtual business cards, GPS coordinates, discount codes, or even links to videos or websites. To create a QR Code, simply use a QR Code generator online or via a dedicated mobile application. Once the QR Code has been generated, it can be printed on communication media such as business cards, posters and brochures, or displayed on websites and mobile applications.

Mobile users can then scan the code using a QR Code reader integrated into their cell phone to be redirected to the desired website, video or information. QR Codes can be used in a wide range of situations, from marketing campaigns to product traceability, geolocation and connection to a wifi network. They offer great flexibility in terms of personalization and legibility for users.

What's more, QR Codes can be scanned by different types of terminal, compatible with Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry operating systems, and even some traditional barcode readers. In conclusion, the QR Code has become an indispensable tool in the world of mobile marketing and interactive communication. Thanks to its ease of use and ability to hold a vast amount of information, it can be used to create unique and engaging user experiences.
